Introduction to PennyLane

Workshop summary:

The workshop provides an introduction to Quantum Computing with the PennyLane software library. We show how circuits can be constructed and trained in PennyLane on a variety of devices, via an interactive demonstration. We will also cover a quantum machine learning application and guide the attendees to more learning resources.

Speaker information:

Catalina Albornoz holds a MSc. in Electronics from Los Andes University and Engineering Diploma from IMT Atlantique in France.

She’s currently Quantum Community Manager at Xanadu, where she helps build the community around PennyLane. In the past Catalina has worked at IBM, where she was an IBM Quantum Ambassador, and at GreenYellow Colombia, where she was Project Manager for energy efficiency projects.

Jay Soni completed his BSc. in mathematical physics from the University of Waterloo. During his time there he participated in multiple internships working in industry as a software developer and working in academia as a research assistant. He recently completed a fellowship at Harvard working as a quantum optics researcher.

Fun fact: He likes coding almost as much as he likes drinking ice capps

Workshop materials: 

The presenters would like for the workshop to be interactive and for participants to code along with us. Participants will need to have a blank jupyter notebook and have installed PennyLane. PennyLane can be installed using "pip install PennyLane".

Who can attend:

CQE undergrads from UChicago, UIUC, UW – Madison, and Northwestern are encouraged to participate in this series of quantum computing workshops to provide an introduction to different quantum computing platforms. Each workshop will feature a demo and tutorial on a quantum computing platform. Trainees and other CQE members are also invited to participate.
