Join Propellant Ventures for an engaging discussion with experts, entrepreneurs, and investors to discuss the excitement around quantum computing. While a fully functioning quantum computer may still be years away, investors are showing a growing interest in the nascent tech area that promises to one day allow calculations at tremendous speed and power AI model building. A record number of companies developing hardware and software for quantum computers raised funding last year despite a decline in total deal value, according to PitchBook data. Investor activity in the area is notable at a time when most prominent tech sectors registered a drop in deal count. Since quantum technology has the potential to shape the future, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker is focused on making Chicago the quantum capital of the world. In fact, Illinois receives $2 of every $5 the federal government spends on quantum technology. It is home to four of the nation’s ten quantum centers, the most of any state. Private investment is also fueling Chicago’s quantum economy. Chicago is the leader in U.S.-based quantum investments. It ranks only behind California for the number of quantum start-up companies. The region was recently designated a quantum technology hub by the U.S. Department of Commerce, which will bring federal funding to area universities.
