Title:
Devices and Testbeds for Quantum Networking at NIST
Description:

Research in the Quantum Communications and Networking Project in NIST’s Information Technology Laboratory (ITL) focuses on developing quantum devices and studying them for use in quantum communications and quantum networking applications. Our goal is to bridge the gap between fundamental quantum mechanics/information theory and their practical applications in information technology. We perform research on the creation, transmission, transduction/interfacing, storage, processing, and measurement of optical qubits. We are also working toward implementing a quantum network testbed in which the suitability and performance of new and existing quantum devices and systems can be studied in a real-life network environment. The testbed will lead to the development of best-practices and protocols for quantum networks. In this talk, we will provide an overview of our current research projects, including components and devices for quantum communications, quantum network metrology, and the NIST Gaithersburg (NG-QNet) and DC area (DC-QNet) quantum network testbeds.
