Macomb, IL: Roundtable on Advancing Quantum Technologies in the Midwest

A coalition led by the Chicago Quantum Exchange has been awarded a $1 million US National Science Foundation Regional Innovation Engines (NSF Engines) Development Award to deepen partnerships and strengthen workforce and economic development plans for Chicagoland’s growing quantum ecosystem.

All regional organizations are invited to join the meetings, which will provide opportunities to share assets, develop the vision for the region to capitalize on quantum technologies, and strengthen funding proposals. Meetings will include discussions on:

  1. What are the region’s growing quantum workforce needs and how might we meet them? Morning Session, 10:00 am – 12:30 pm
    • “What is Quantum” for Workforce Development?
    • Understanding the region – ecosystem assets and gaps
    • Moving forward – Potential visions and needed resources
  2. How can we build commercialization and innovation-to-practice pathways that benefit all in the region? Afternoon Session, 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm
    • “What is Quantum” for technology translation?
    • Understanding the region – ecosystem assets and gaps
    • Moving forward – Potential visions and needed resources

Meeting outcomes will be leveraged to lead to a proposal for up to $160 million in NSF Engines funding, to be submitted in 2024-2025.
