Investors are keeping a close eye on companies that are developing hardware- or software-based solutions for quantum computing, communication, sensing, and other enabling technologies. Last year, investors poured more than $1 billion in venture capital into quantum tech companies and the U.S. saw its first pure-play quantum computing startup go public at a $2 billion valuation. Boston Consulting Group estimates that quantum computing alone could create value of $450 billion to $850 billion in the next 15 to 30 years.

So what exactly do investors look for? How do they determine which early-stage company or technology will win in the quantum race? And how can quantum startups increase their odds of success in landing some of this VC or corporate investment?
