CQE Seminar: An Introduction to Quantum Science and Engineering at Purdue
- When:
- Wednesday, September 25, 2024 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
- Where:
- Virtual
- Description:
-
Purdue University, which joined the CQE as a member in May, will offer an overview of the research, programs, and initiatives of the Purdue Quantum Science and Engineering Institute (PQSEI). There will also be short talks from Purdue faculty members highlighting their specific research efforts. The end of the webinar will be devoted to questions and open discussion.
The PQSEI, established to foster the development of practical and impactful aspects of quantum science, focuses on discovering and studying new materials and basic physical quantum systems that will be best suited for integration into tomorrow's technology. With over 60 faculty members from diverse backgrounds, the PQSEI encourages interdisciplinary collaboration leading to the design and realization of industry-friendly quantum devices that will impact a vast community of users. The PQSEI also works to train the next generation of quantum scientists and engineers in order to meet the growing quantum workforce demands.
Purdue is also home to the Microsoft Quantum Lab West Lafayette. Under the direction of Professor Michael Manfra, the lab engineers hardware solutions involving materials development, device fabrication, and measurement as part of Microsoft’s global effort to build a full stack, scalable quantum computer.
Speakers will include:
- Yong Chen: Director, PQSEI; Karl Lark-Horovitz Professor of Physics and Astronomy; Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering
- Chen-Lung Hung: Associate Professor of Physics and Astronomy
- Michael Manfra: Bill and Dee O’Brien Distinguished Professor of Physics and Astronomy; Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering; Professor of Materials Engineering; Scientific Director, Microsoft Quantum Lab Purdue
- Vladimir Shalaev: Robert and Anne Burnett Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering; Scientific Director of Nanophotonics, Birck Nanotechnology Center
