PI Hosseini's research encompasses several areas, including quantum optics, nanophotonics, quantum materials, quantum communication, and quantum sensing. His work centers around studying light-matter interactions in various platforms, such as rare-earth crystals, room-temperature gases, and nano photonics structures, with the aim of harnessing their unique properties for quantum communication and sensing applications.

The central theme of his group's research involves investigating the intricate dynamics of light-atom interactions and their impact on quantum optical communication and sensing. The current research directions include: Cooperative interaction of light with periodic arrays of ions in nano- or micro-photonic structures, Quantum light generation and storage using atoms in cryogenic solids or room-temperature atoms, and  Enhanced sensing and imaging utilizing optomechanical, quantum optical, and atomic systems.
