Becky is a former newspaper journalist and author who joined the CQE in January 2023 and currently serves as the senior director of communications and strategic reporting.
Prior to that, she worked as director of content at the University of Chicago Law School. Becky is the coauthor of the nonfiction book Good Enough is the New Perfect (re-released in 2021 by Park Row Books, a division of HarperCollins) and has spoken to audiences and media outlets nationwide, including MSNBC; WGN-TV; NBC5 Chicago; news shows Pittsburgh and Champaign, IL; the New York Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune; Chicago Sun-Times, Arizona Republic; the Globe and Mail; several dozen radio shows; and more.
As a data/special projects reporter for Chicago Sun-Times, Becky developed a statistical method for ranking Illinois public schools for the paper’s annual School report Card package and co-wrote the “Failing Teachers” series that led to reforms in the Chicago Public Schools, Illinois Senate Education Committee hearings, and changes to state law. She also produced an investigative series for USA Today that was cited as the impetus for federal legislation that provided $1 billion in grants to forensic laboratories.
