The US EDA-designated Bloch Quantum Tech Hub has raised $55 million to transition the U.S. quantum sector to at-scale manufacturing. A $30 million EDA grant, announced July 20, launched four key projects and unlocked an additional $25 million in cost-sharing and commitments. Led by the CQE, The Bloch (pronounced "block") will address a major hurdle to US quantum growth — a reliance on foreign imports that slows innovation, creates security risks, and raises production costs.

The Quantum Prairie is well-positioned for this work: Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana are all top 10 manufacturing states, and the Midwest is home to a diverse industry base, world-leading research institutions, and a large talent pool.

The Bloch Quantum Tech Hub is a U.S. Economic Development Administration–designated Tech Hub based in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana. It is transitioning the U.S quantum sector to at-scale manufacturing.

The Chicago Quantum Exchange, a Midwest-based consortium that is building the world’s premier discovery-to-deployment quantum ecosystem, leads The Bloch Quantum. Other key partners include the University of Chicago, Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center (IMEC), the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park, the Illlinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, IonQ, IBM, and Northwest Indiana’s One Region.

The Bloch will address a major impediment to US quantum growth by building a robust domestic quantum supply chain. This is important to U.S. economic and national security: the reliance on imported materials, components, and subsystems slows innovation, creates security risks, and raises production costs.

Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana are all top 10 manufacturing states, and the Midwest is home to a diverse industry base, world-leading research institutions, and a large talent pool.

The EDA grant funded four interconnected projects, which will:

Transition Midwest quantum companies to scaled manufacturing by providing tools and resources, including a shared quantum sensing testbed at Purdue Northwest, automation software through Infleqtion, and technical assistance funds;
Provide existing manufacturers with the tools, expertise, and customer relationships to become part of a scaled domestic quantum supply chain, a project that the Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center (IMEC) will lead;
Strengthen security for US quantum technologies and mobilize a projected $300 million in additional investments; and
Build a facility at the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park that will bring key players together, giving suppliers access to customers.

A US EDA Tech Hub is a regional consortium designated by the U.S. Economic Development Administration to become a global leader in emerging technologies. The Bloch Quantum was among the inaugural Tech Hubs designated in 2023, and it is one of two focused on quantum.
