Three CQE Researchers Named 2026 Sloan Research Fellows

Chicago Quantum Exchange researchers Jacob Covey, Peter Maurer, and Zoe Yan have been awarded 2026 Sloan Research Fellowships, one of the most competitive honors for early-career scientists in the United States and Canada.

Covey is an experimental physicist who develops and controls arrays of neutral atoms for quantum simulation and quantum information science. His research explores strongly interacting quantum systems and advances new platforms for quantum computing and precision measurement.

Maurer is a molecular engineer whose research focuses on quantum sensing and imaging using solid state spin systems and other quantum technologies. His group applies coherent control techniques to probe biological systems and dynamics at the nanoscale, bridging quantum science and biophysics.

Yan is an experimental physicist whose work focuses on quantum many-body physics with ultracold atoms and molecules. Her research uses advanced techniques to trap, manipulate, and measure interacting quantum systems, designing customized Hamiltonians to study their complex behavior.

Covey, Maurer and Yan are among the 2026 class of fellows selected by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The fellowship provides $75,000 over two years to support research and recognizes scholars whose creativity and accomplishments mark them as future leaders in science.
