C2ST: What is Quantum Computing?
- When:
- Thursday, April 7, 2022 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
- Where:
- Virtual
- Description:
-
The Chicago Council on Science and Technology and Fermilab present:
Quantum computing is a type of computation that harnesses the collective properties of quantum states–, such as superposition, interference, and entanglement–, to perform calculations. The devices that perform these quantum computations are known as quantum computers.
Join C2ST and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory to learn aboutthe Superconducting Quantum Materials and Systems Center (SQMS) and the researchers behind it!
The SQMS center at Fermilab brings together an interdisciplinary team of more than 80 experts in superconducting technologies, condensed matter physics, materials science, atomic physics, theoretical particle physics, and key areas of quantum information science. It is at SQMS where critical steps are being taken to push the boundaries of what can be achieved with quantum computers.
Join us on April 7th at 7:30 pm to learn how quantum computing works, the difference between 2-D and 3-D supercomputing devices, and what research is being done right now to advance our understanding and applications of quantum computing.
